Qld: Tourist drowns on the Sunshine Coast

BRISBANE, Feb 11 AAP - A tourist from the Czech Republic today became the third fatalityin three days on Queensland beaches when he drowned on the Sunshine Coast.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesman said the 41-year-old man went swimming withtwo male friends in "challenging" conditions in an unpatrolled area north of PeregianBeach around 11am (AEST).

They were caught in a rip and a passing board rider rescued two of the men.

But when he returned to the outer break, the third man had disappeared.

His body was found two hours later washed up on the beach.

His death was the third drowning in three days on south-east Queensland beaches.

Over summer 10 people have died on Queensland beaches - five of them overseas tourists.
